Dyspraxia also known as Developmental Co-ordination Disorder (DCD), is a common disorder affecting fine or gross motor co-ordination in children and adults. Most children with dyspraxia have experienced delays in their development of physical and practical coordination skills. For example, they have often taken longer than peers to learn to walk and crawl, and later to learn to ride a bicycle and to swim. They show regular clumsiness and normally struggle with PE and sports at school, particularly those that require good hand-eye coordination and balance. Fine motor skills are also normally affected, including their handwriting which is often difficult to read and/or very slow. There may be a range of co-occurring difficulties including social and communication difficulties as well as problems with time management, planning and personal organisation.
